Why Are People Asking If Their IQ Is High?

What I don't understand is, why are people asking if their IQ score is high? e.g. is my 140 IQ score good??

The purpose of this article was to inform of an IQ "rating" scale.

If people (with a high IQ) need to ask such a question then clearly something has gone wrong somewhere...Maybe its the test itself, common sense; immaturity; social interaction; or a wanting to be praised.

Upon taking an IQ test at the age of eleven, I was surprised to find my score in the 180-200 category. Just last month, I took an IQ test for the second time, and scored 151. A decrease of almost half- if the first was accurate- how strange.

I took a IQ test online and I even took on at Luke's Air Force base along with the ASVAB and for you guys who aren't taking this seriously...its real. My senior year I got a 114 which was surprising to me and I asked one of the officers on the scale where would I be and just like this site stated and others like I am considered Very Intelligent.

Besides I got a good score on my ASVAB as well as soon I got home I tried one of these online IQ tests and I got the same score 114. I'm surprise...very...now all I gotta do this work harder to achieve that 120 - 140 class. You would be surprised to how many people do score 98-103 its an average.

Quite simply it's all in the name of vanity. "I have a score of 165 is that good?" translates to "Look at me I'm smart, I have a high IQ and you all should think highly of me."

A note of caution: IQ only measures your ability to take in and understand ideas and concepts. It is NOT a measure of your actual intelligence. A person with an IQ of 180 that has only ever shoveled horse manure will obviously be less intelligent than an MIT professor with an IQ of 145 that has studying lets say quantum theory their whole life. So, don't be overly-proud of your good genetic coding.

It's kind of like bragging about being tall.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist or anything, but I don't know about one of those comments saying it being racially biased. Sadly, I know very bright students who should have held very lucrative and satisfying positions. They, however, were not driven and did not apply themselves. Thus, they hold mediocre jobs.

When I was a kid, I was in the "gifted" program and I remember my father telling me that I had an IQ of 132 (for whatever reason, I remember that number although I don't remember even taking the test.)

As an adult, I've felt incredibly dull, especially since I started working with a friend who occasionally reminds others that he has an IQ of 178. I don't doubt that fact, because he is highly intelligent. Yet, I'm beginning to feel quite stupid because it takes me noticeably longer to solve problems and do analysis than it does for him.

What can I do on a daily basis to increase my IQ, and what's the maximum improvement that an adult can really expect to have?

Briefly speaking: when I take a test which gives more weigh to spacial questions, I loose 15-25 points! When more questions are on linguistic reasoning, I am OK! Mathematical questions are always just good... When they say that questions go from easiest to hardest, I do "confess" that the last 10-15 questions (from 36-40 questions, for example) were much easier to me than those in the medium range (questions 12-20 for example). From this very personal experience that is still actual, I lost confidence in IQ tests.

I find it Hard to Believe!

I have an above average IQ. The number is inconsequential to the point because it does not mean anything to me if anyone knows the value. I find it hard to believe that all the people here are saying my IQ is so high, what does that mean. Did you not just negate the obvious. If your IQ is high, undoubtedly you would know the indications of the number. I find it utterly aggravating that I have such a high IQ. The end result is the higher the number the more alone you are. Simply, because you think like no one else. What interests me, interests me alone. I do not see the pride that is displayed here. Those with high IQ's pay the price of solitude.

I don't really see the importance of IQ scores. Yes, I love to be able to say to my friends, "Hey, I have a genius IQ!" (my IQ is somewhere around 141-147, depending on which tests you look at, lol) but that doesn't mean I will do well in school or in life. The reason I have success is because I work hard, I practice at what is difficult for me, and because I challenge myself to do better. If you do those things, I honestly think that everything else will come in time.

IQ Test Not Reliable

Getting IQs of over 110, 120 are quite normal in these online tests, mostly because they are not actually certified or tested properly. Normal IQ tests are hours long and have been tested and checked by world experts from places like mensa. Really the only thing these online tests show is whether you may have some qualities to have a high IQ since these aren't the full tests and are not near as hard or thorough as real ones, for instance when i took it, i got 142, but when I took mensa one, i got an average of 162.

I see only genius's post here... This is amazing considering on average 1 out of 400 people have a true genius score. Needless to say the majority of postings are from children not adults, which make this even more evident that everyone thinks they are smart, even the ignorant... I'd respond by saying, be honest with yourself and stop looking things up or having any other reference other than your mind. IQ scores are continually going down by the generation and these posts help support that fact. I scored an average of 120-125 on multiple sites and colleges over the years and I'm 32. Ignorance is bliss, at least I've heard!

I'm from a rural area and would like to say the IQ test are not unfair in anyway. Claims that the test is unfair are unfair to those who score high and are then kicked back down by everyone by saying the test is made for you and people like you to score higher than another group of people. Here's a real test, if you were dropped off on a deserted island, and given nothing and completely alone, could or would you choose to survive? There are a thousand factors playing in this scenario that outweigh the fact that you think you're a genus - each one proving to be infinitely more valuable.

For example, people with autism are usually tested with the standard IQ test, based on concepts learned in schools, but when tested in another IQ test that tests a different category of intelligence their average increase in score is 30 points. There are number of factors about any IQ score. What is quality of the test? How the standardization was made? How the scores are interpreted? What is average score in a given test? blah blah...

Most of the tests score average people at 100. You are above that range. Be happy!

Honestly, all you really need to do to pass an IQ test with flying colors is read the directions and use common sense. I scored a 152 as a 15 year old male (yes I think being a guy matters) and I did not have to really think at all, also I am really not that smart, I have a C average in school. IQ tests are easy!

My mom took like 20 minutes to take it and I took around 10. She took about 5 minutes on just one question when I took 1 minute to figure it out. It goes to show you that parents underestimate kids. Just a thought... If u say you got a 150 on an IQ test, and ask if its good... Chances are, you were lucky you scored that high. There are actual accredited tests that can be taken, as an assessment. Most online quick tests are completely off. On the other hand, they do make you feel good about yourself.

Impressed with IQ Test!

I just bothered trying the IQ test because my teacher asked and I am in grade 10 and i scored 138. Pretty good from what i read and i'm pretty impressed!

Editor's Response: If your test was a real one, having scientific background and research, then it is very good score. Generally people score 100 (+10, -10)on good IQ tests.

IQ testing industry is doing its best to count majority of the people on average slab!

I'm 14 years and 6 months old to be reasonably accurate. This morning i took an IQ test and achieved an IS Score of 150. I've been told that I am intelligent and do tend to get the highest grades in most subjects but I read the words, 'only 1 in 400 people can achieve a high IQ rating', and I have to say it left me a little stunned. I don't think you can take most of these online tests too seriously. They may give you a rough idea but I am certainly not going to go around saying I am a 'genius'. In fact I would probably just get beats for that lol. What do you think people?

I am 16 years old and a college student... I took the IQ test just for the sake of fun. I have scored an IQ score of 155.. Is it accurate?

Anyway the score of an IQ test should not be matched with scores of another IQ test. Furthermore, a score from any IQ test should be taken cautiously before making a decision of your life.

Why I am not in Gifted Classes?

Accurate IQ Tests

Most of you are obviously either haven't taken IQ tests that are accurate at all. Either that or you're just lying. I highly doubt all of you are geniuses and you are obviously under-rating the word genius. And for someone to say they have an IQ in the 180-200 range is absolute crap. Congratulations if it's true thought, you're about 1 in 1 billion people.

Your IQ at a particular age ie; when your 14 and when your 45 the result should be very, very close if you take a true IQ test. They should not very more than 5 points either way under normal conditions. Taking an online iq will in 99.9% of situations not give an accurate result. It is also best to take more than one IQ test to determine an accurate result.
