Emotional IQ Test Measures Your Emotional Intelligence

Emotional IQ test measures your capability, capacity or deftness to understand, evaluate and manage emotions. Like intelligence, the emotional intelligence (EI) is also an abstract term, but there is more weight in the arguments of proponents of the EI than the experts of classic IQ tests.

Psychologists, like Mayer, differentiate EI from emotional knowledge. Some of them believe that EQ measures your cognitive abilities as the classic IQ tests do. Some others from the same group think that emotional intelligence test measures a combination of your perceived skills and traits.

The term of EI was used first time by Thorndike in 1920. He intended to use it to understand and manage emotions of other people. Then Gardener’s theory of Multiple Intelligence identified eight bits of intelligence.

Psychologists like Gardner believe that traditional types of intelligence have failed to explain the phenomenon of your cognitive abilities fully. Goleman, Pane, Carl Lans, etc. followed the same line of argument and developed the concept of emotional intelligence test further.

Beasley used the term of EI first time with the scientific concepts. Slaovey and Mayer described it in details to prove that EI is a real type of intelligence.

What Emotional IQ Test Measures?

Different explanations and writings prove that Emotional intelligence test measures your cognitive process. How do you integrate thoughts and feelings to make critical decisions? What cognitive abilities you have? What combination of natural skills and characteristics do you show? etc

In fact, different models of EI identify various components, and different Emotional tests measure these elements by following their respective models. Mayer-Salovey -Caruso model follows your emotional abilities. The Bar-On model is related to the EQ. The Goleman model is comprised of emotional competence inventory and EI appraisal. And so on.

How EQ is Measured?

The Schutte Self-Report Emotional intelligence Test was the first measure . Since then a lot number of techniques have been used. Some of them include:

• Self Report Measure

• Swinburne University Emotional IQ Test (SUEIT)

• GENOS EQ

• The EQ Map

• The Six Second EI Assessment (SEI)

• The ECI

• Emotional IQ Test by Tett, Fox and Wang

Some Advanced EQ Tests

The advanced measures have further authenticated the emotional test. Two of them are the most prominent:

•    The EI Appraisal by Bradberry and Greaves measures self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management.

•    The Mayer-Salovey-Caruso EI Test (MSCEIT) is a measure to evaluate emotional intelligence involving many emotion-based problems solving items. It has high validity regarding the concept of EI due to the non-objective nature of its issues. It measures experiential areas and strategic areas. The experiential regions include perceiving, thinking and emotions while vital sectors include understanding emotional meanings and managing emotions.
